Addressed not only to Catholics but to"every person living on this planet," Pope Francis' second encyclical is a challenging call for a "bold cultural revolution" in how we think about technological progress and economic growth. The degradation of our environment, he says, is a symptom of deeper problems: rapid change, unsustainable overconsumption, indifference to the poor, and the decay of social values. He offers a variety of solutions, including a change in lifestyles away from "extreme consumerism" and towards a greater sense of social responsibility. For Christians, an "ecological spirituality"-one that is grounded in the convictions of our faith- is not "an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience." Drawing on the rich social teachings of the Church, Laudato Si is a groundbreaking document that will be discussed and studied by both believers and non-believers for years to come. Study guide included for Reflection and Discussion,

Simen Johan's ongoing series of photographs and sculptures, "Until the Kingdom Comes," begun in 2005, depicts a natural world that is at once familiar and otherworldly. Most (but not all) of the images are intricate digital constructs incorporating elements the artist photographed in various geographical locations. Towering giraffes, captured in various US zoos, populate a hazy, desolate landscape created from images taken in Turkey, Bali and Iceland; spectacular Javan peacocks from Asia are camouflaged within a Spanish pepper tree; and the interior of an Icelandic volcano forms the setting for a gooey tar pit where Peruvian yellow-hooded blackbirds nest. Each image confuses the boundaries between opposing forces such as the natural and the artificial, the serene and the eerie, the primal and the mindful. These dynamic tensions reflect the internal conflicts and contradictions inherent to human nature that fuel Johan's work. Only a limited quantity of this oversize, unbound volume is available.

“The legend goes that when you are in your mother’s womb, you know all about the mystery of creation, the origins of the world until the end of time. When you are born, a messenger flies over your cradle and puts a finger on your lips so that the secret of life will never escape. The finger erases your memory forever and leaves a mark, which all of us have above our upper lip. All of us, except me. The day I was born, the messenger forgot to come and see me, and I remember everything.”From the top of Ethiopian plateaus to the frozen lakes of the Northern Ural, Marc Levy’s latest novel concludes the breathtaking epic started with The First Day. Love is the ultimate adventure, but it can be dangerous.
